Russian Assets at Center of Legal Challenge by Central Bank

The Russian central bank said it will pursue comprehensive legal action to challenge any direct or indirect use of Russian assets frozen abroad, arguing that such measures violate international law.

In an official statement, the bank warned that any European decisions involving Russian assets would be contested before national courts, foreign judicial bodies, international organizations and arbitration panels, with efforts to enforce resulting rulings across UN member states.

The bank stressed that proposed mechanisms to deploy Russian assets breach the principle of sovereign immunity and lack a valid legal foundation.

It added that it reserves the right to activate all available legal and other remedies to defend its interests should European initiatives proceed in any form.
